Mental health in the Philippines

After Covid ripped through World it seemed to have left a lot of mental scars. For example, In California, I noticed my friends who were in relationships became less social. People became less social. Fear and kindness eventually turned into selfish anger. People physically fighting in America and then of course the American government becoming more greedy and less supportive.

Two years after Covid I had found myself single and unhappy in a new genre of dating. I used to get on-line and date. Within a month I would have a new shiny fun relationship. But in 2022, I found that reality to be gone. Replaced with dating sites that had men identifying as women, women who didn't need a man but sometimes "wanted one", alcohol and drug abusing women, mental health issues, Instagram/Tiktok attitudes, obese and lazy women. I felt trapped. I saw mental illness issues everywhere.

I thought about my past relationships and I realized most of my relationships had serious issues. Mental, credit-debt, drug and alcohol issues. Someone close to me ended up in a couseling therapy session for 6+ years that helped destroy our relationship. In the end she said she wanted to have a relationship with me but only through email. I laughed. This was a person who used to be so bright and positive. A shining personality that withered into a dull faint star. So I had enough of America's mental health crisis. I gave up on her mental illness and whatever prescription she was addicted to. I tried for years to wake her up.

Let's also not forget to mention the troublesome homeless issues plaguing America. The movies Escape from New York and Zombieland make more sense to me everyday. Over 1 in 5 (ages 13-18) children either currently or have had mental illness. About 1 in 25 U.S. adults live with a serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or major depression. Prescription drugs dominate America's landscape and over-prescription is everywhere.

American's who have no real knowledge of the Philippines are quite honestly ignorant about the facts of the Philippines. Mental health issues are much lower in the Philippines. This is due to stronger family support. I personally believe it is also because video games are not as present in the Philippines. America has a serious problem with violence stemming from video games and the lack of gun control. The only mental illness that I have seen from dating and friends is slight depression due to how difficult it is for people to live here. Especially a single mom.

Overall, the Filipino people are always cheerful, positive, music-loving, heart-warming and happy. They love family and still inherit a simple charm and beauty. This is why Cebu and the Philippine islands are one of the last remaining places to find a beautiful person and soul to trust and love.
